Platform bed with drawers – A set of drawers under a full size bed allows you to take advantage of organizing and more than 25 square feet of storage space. Although you can spend hundreds on a bed frame with prefabricated drawers under the bed, building your own at half the cost is a project well within reach of the most novice and intermediate woodworkers. These plans are for a full screen or a double-sized platform with drawers underneath, but you can build it for any size mattress by adjusting the wood sizes.
Use your electric saw to cut plywood sheets purchased in the store to the required dimensions. Sand all sides of the entire wood twice, once with coarse-grained sandpaper and once with fine-grained sandpaper. Apply a coat of paint to all surfaces of your wood. Allow to dry.
Set all four 2 by 8 beams on the ground, parallel to each other and with their ends aligned. The four beams should rest on their narrowest, 2-inch, faces. Set the beams 33 inches apart, from the inner edge and the inner edge. Set two of your 54 inches per side sheets of 37 1/2-inch plywood side by side on the top of the square formed by the joists. Screw in place with 16 wood screws, two screws evenly spaced per sheet per beam. Insert the screws through the plywood and into the beam below.
